Shredder Overheating Troubleshooting

What to Do When It Overheats
  1. Turn it off and cool it down:
If the shredder stops working, switch it off and let it rest. Many models require a 15- to 30-minute cooldown period to allow the motor to reset and cool down completely.
    • Check for jams:
Ensure there are no paper jams or blockages in the shredder, as these can also lead to overheating.
    • Ensure proper ventilation:
Place the shredder in a well-ventilated area to allow proper airflow and cooling.
How to Prevent Overheating
    • Follow the duty cycle:
Adhere to your shredder's recommended "duty cycle," which is the maximum amount of time it can run continuously before needing to cool down. For your model, you can run it for 3 - 7 minutes continuously before requiring a cooldown period of 30 minutes or more

    • Take breaks:
Avoid running the shredder for extended periods. Take short breaks during continuous use to allow the motor to cool. The longer a shredder is used, the longer it takes to cool down.
    • Don't overload it
Do not exceed the maximum number of sheets recommended by the manufacturer (8 - 10 sheets).
    • Empty the waste bin
A full waste bin can contribute to jams and overheating.
    • If possible, shred as you go: Do not shred a lot of paper at the same time (i.e. the end of the day, or the end of the week).
    • Oil the shredder every time you empty it: Here's a quick video showing the proper way to oil the shredder.
